Looking outside at the overcast sky, and the wind that almost blew me right off my feet just a few moments ago, it's quite difficult to believe that this was a week that began with run of picnics. But lo, twas so. We celebrated the blossoming bluebells at my in-laws with a picnic in the woods, and on May Day the garland parade came to town. It's was one of those really memorable days when you don't make any plans but just go with what's going on around you, and end up having the best time.
Apologies for being a bit quiet this week, but I've been sinking my teeth into an exciting but possibly fruitless research project. I might write a post on it, but for now let me just share with you these astonishing costumes, from the original Ballet Russes performance of 'The Rite of Spring', in 1913.
